Hotlegs Winter 2009
Welcome to winter! Print E-mail

It's always a melancholy trip, the downside of the modern expandable Christmas season. Around January 3rd, the hangover cobwebs start to clear, when the tree has shred all it needles but it's bad luck to take it down early. You've got another batch of soap and that smelly stuff to stash away until the next chance you get to donate it to a raffle and there's the prospect of returning back to work to look forward to. Well don't let your screen saver be the only decent view you stare at this winter. Check out what our new walking programme has on offer, every weekend of the year! Book yourself onto a weekend away to break up those winter blues. Be adventurous, make a new year's walking resolution? Bag The 3 Peaks (all in one go, or one at a time)? Take on a long distance footpath? Pick up an OS Map and go and check out an area where you've never been to before? Why not make 2010 the year you walk further or higher than ever?

Bye! Steve D

During the early 1980's my late grandma took me walking. She was an active member of Yardley and District Rambling Club and I was a pain in the arse. I loved going walking on Sundays with Nan. She always got me a crafty half of shandy at the pub and she made me wicked egg and cress sandwiches. Mom and Dad also enjoyed a child free day, with the knowledge that I would come home knackered and probably go straight to bed.

shamrockI became hooked on Irish music at the age of 17. Every Sunday night my mates and I would head down to the function room of the Lyndhurst in Erdington. The band Drowsy Maggie and gallons of strong larger were always on the menu.

I owe a lot to my Nan for getting me walking. I must have walked thousands of miles. Drowsy Maggie inspired me to learn the how to play guitar and tin whistle. In 2002, I discovered Irish Walking Festivals, so ever since I get the chance to put three of my favourite things together, walking, Irish music and Guinness. I eventually moved on from strong larger and lingering hang-overs when I acquired a taste for the black stuff.
