Hotlegs Winter 2008
Welcome to winter! Print E-mail

Chilly skies, white paths, short days, welcome to winter. Think hibernation sound a lot cushier? Think again! Some of my best walking memories have involved some spectacular winter scenery.

WMWG's very own dedicated team of volunteer walk leaders have done all the hard work and have planned for you a fantastic winter walking programme. All you need to do if wrap up warm and get a riddle on before it gets dark. Later on while you waterproofs are drying off and your boots are gently steaming, I promise you that your sofa, central heating and that dodgy Sunday night film on.

Channel 4 will seem much better after coming in from a bracing winter walk. Get out there on snow patrol!

Don't let the white-stuff keep you indoors this winter.

Bye! Steve D

Man with a big loadHotlegs very own ‘Chief Scientist' Dr Gordon S has recently discovered that cows can sense the earth's magnetic field.

Research has revealed that grazing and resting cattle tend to face north to south, just like a compass needle. It may however not be such a wise moove (get it) to ditch your GPS for Bully or Daisy just yet. Unless you can get yourself a rucksack the size of a barn?

Kunde hospitalAfter lots of challenging training walks and extreme list making we set off for Nepal to trek to Everest Base Camp. From Kathmandu, we hopped on to a really tiny plane for a short flight to Lukla in the Himalayas. Worryingly, one week before a plane had crashed there in the fog! Only the pilot survived! We landed on possibly the shortest, hairiest landing strip in the world at a height of 2,800 metres and sandwiched between two mountains.

Stay lean and mean this winter!

The best thing about a day out walking is the guilt free indulgence at the end. But how do you know how many pints you can knock back in the bar afterwards or how many bites of a Mars bar you have earned?
