About us |
The West Midlands Walking Group was formed to cater for those interested in walking and the outdoors in their 20's and 30's. We are part of the Ramblers Association. Non-members may attend any two Ramblers Association events as a guest before they must join. If you'd like to be added to our email circulation list, please contact us.

Health & Safety |
All sporting and leisure activities have inherent hazards associated with them and rambling is no exception. In spite of the safety of members always being the paramount concern, accidents will occasionally occur. It is important, therefore, that when entering into the activity each member appreciates that they have a responsibility to identify the hazards associated with the activity and take all reasonable steps to eliminate or minimise the potential for an accident to arise. |

Joining the Ramblers Association |
You join the central Ramblers Association, and affiliate yourself to us, by specifying group WK51 (West Midlands Walking). Otherwise you will be allocated to your most local senior/standard group, and not to a young person's group. Prospective members may join our events on a trial basis, but need to join after their second event. The annual individual fee is £31 per annum, and joining is possible by calling 020 7339 8959, applying online or by postal application.

When do you go walking? |
We have a walk on pretty much every Saturday and Sunday. In the summer we enjoy many short evening walks during the week. We even run night time full moon walks in the winter!
Where do you walk? |
Anywhere within a reasonable drive of the West Midlands. We explore further afield on our weekends away. We normally walk in the countryside, but sometimes enjoy exploring urban areas too.
How hard are the walks? |
We rely on our members putting on the kinds of walks they like. In practice, with our large membership, this means a huge variety in each program. From 3-4 miles with a tea shop up to 26 mile challenge walks, with most grades in between. There should be something to suit everybody!
Walks are graded (easy, straightforward, intermediate, challenging, difficult) to approximate effort involved. Over 90% of our members can comfortably complete walks up to and including intermediate grading, and only the 'difficult' grade is suitable only for mountain specialists. |
Do I have to book to go on a walk? |
No. Just turn up at the start, find the leader, say hello, and off you go. Walks organised by us are free. We occasionally advertise events for other charities where a small admin fee or advance booking is required. This will be made clear in the walk description.

Do I have to be a member to go on a walk? |

We are happy for you to join us on two walks. Then we would ask you to join.

How do I join? |
You join the Ramblers Association, the national charity for walkers, and ask to be allocated to our group. Our code is WK51. Ring 020 7339 8595 to join on the phone, or join online.
